Details

7 1/4" Gauge R1 "Southern Tank Engine" 0-6-0, Live Steam,

Our model faithfully reproduces this engine in 7 1/4 Inch gauge, with all the style and Victorian elegance of the original. It has a copper TIG Welded boiler with both hand and crosshead pumps. There is a screw regulator mounted in the smoke box. Steam from the boiler is superheated and then fed into a cast iron cylinder block mounted between the frames.

There are two cylinders with piston valves operated by Stephensons link valve gear. A displacement lubricator is mounted under the front footplate, other fittings include whistle, water and pressure gauges, blower, boiler blow down etc. This Large and capable model is made for hauling, with a dry weight of 118kg it has the power to match its looks.

Hi Hans, the motion work on these R1 is all made from stainless steel so it is very hard wearing, we did consider a Steel boiler for this model because of it's size but thought the additional cost of a copper boiler was nothing in comparison to the benefit of the welded copper boiler, they are really free steaming, welded tubes means no tube replacements, welded construction means there is no silver solider degradation over time so the TIG welded copper boilers are really the best model boiler in production. If you can get to the UK you can come and drive our demonstrator!! (Posted on 09/05/2016)
